Molten Lithium Hydride is almost the Most Powerful Reducing Agent
A few years ago Tom (ExF) and I did a collaboration and he showed the spontaneous combustion of silane and diborane. I went further and in this video I'll show you in addition to silane and diborane also phosphine, titanium tetrahydride and possibly stibine and stannane. I cannot confirm the formation of the last two gases so see for yourself and leave comments.

These are beautiful but not that useful demonstrations since by adding a liquid at near room temperature to a molten solid at hundreds of degreees Celsius the most you get is a big splash and mixture of the reagents and products. To better demonstrate the products properties the reaction should've benn done in a much larger apparatus capable of containing the splash and also being able to somehow separate the gas products from the reagents vapors and then finally exposing it to air/ozone/?? to see their combustion. Anyway, very impressive nonetheless!

There's no reaction description or did I just missed it? Is it possible you first generate H2 (hence the NO2 evolution first seen, unless it comes from the reaction between HNO3 and the containing material) and then it comes to a H2 explosion? Would it be different if you initially generated H2 by other means?
